"We are doing everything to improve the business," Piramal told Dow Jones Newswires. "We are taking steps to grow organically. We are taking steps to grow inorganically as well."

Piramal Healthcare isn't up for sale and the company hasn't had any talks with potential buyers, he said.

Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported U.K.-based drug giant GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK) is in talks to buy Piramal Healthcare for roughly $1.5 billion, citing people familiar with the matter.

Other drug companies have also shown an interest in Piramal Healthcare, including France's Sanofi-Aventis (SNY), the report said.

Piramal Healthcare said Saturday reports of any possible sale of the company were "totally unfounded."
